Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2)

Business leaders partner with NRDC to create a business voice for the environment.

E2 is a national community of individual business leaders who partner with NRDC to help create and implement strong environmental policy. From Wall Street to Silicon Valley, E2 members take an innovative approach to protecting the environment while building economic prosperity. Working with NRDC, E2 members champion the economic side of good environmental policy by taking a reasoned, economically sound approach to environmental issues.

E2, founded in 1999, is built on a unique model that reflects a business sensibility. Instead of creating another environmental group, E2 surveyed the landscape and decided to partner with the most effective organization it could find. NRDC’s policy and science experts and its new Center for Market Innovation work with E2 to identify critical environmental issues, key players in the debate and strategic actions that E2 can take to make a difference.

E2 tackles environmental issues at the state and national levels through bipartisan efforts. E2 delegations visit state houses and the White House, working to gather support for federal transportation policy that encourages mixed-use, “smart growth” communities, to build momentum for laws that address the threat of global warming, to support new policies to better manage our ocean resources, and to advocate for clean technologies and sensible energy policies that reduce our reliance on foreign oil and provide incentives for efficiency and renewable energy.

E2 makes sure that legislators hear the business case for good environmental policy. Its members provide credibility and authority to the argument that environmental progress and economic prosperity go hand in hand. E2 is often cited by local, state and federal legislators as key to environmental victories, many of which would not have been won without the support of E2’s business voice.

Some of E2’s successes over the years include helping pass the nation’s first bill to limit global warming emissions (California’s AB 32) and advancing bills in New York and Massachusetts to improve freshwater and coastal water protection and management. E2 has addressed the nation’s need for caps on carbon emissions, strong fisheries and alternative energy sources. E2 also produces original, business-focused research that effectively makes the case for sound environmental policy based on economic merits.

In partnership with NRDC, E2 is the business voice for the environment.
