What We Do

NRDC has a long history of corporate engagement. We’ve worked with businesses as diverse as Warner Music and Wal-Mart to help ensure that capitalism works for the planet. Today, our Center for Market Innovation brings a new focus to the business of saving the earth, combining years of experience with a bold new vision. Our goal is not simply to “green” the operations of an individual company, but to transform the marketplace to reward environmentally preferable business strategies.

The stakes are tremendous. Scientists say we must cut our global warming emissions 60 percent to 80 percent by 2050 to avoid a global environmental catastrophe. There’s no question that business must play a critical role in achieving these goals -- and that imminent regulations on carbon dioxide emissions are prodding many companies to look for ways to compete on this greener playing field.

The Center for Market Innovation works with the business community to create a new dynamic in the marketplace, one that encourages clean and profitable solutions to environmental challenges. We work in several sectors, including retail, finance and real estate, to help business find and create value in clean energy, energy efficiency and other environmental solutions. We also work to bring business and government together to help shape the policies that will determine the nation’s economic and environmental health for decades to come.
